Persons in possession of lobster urged to declare by tomorrow

The National Fisheries Authority (NFA) is reminding persons who have spiny lobsters in their possession, to declare same by tomorrow.

The lobster season is now closed.

The NFA said between April 22 and June 30, it will be illegal for anyone to have any species of the spiny lobster, or the crustacean’s parts or products in their possession, without special permission.

NFA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Gavin Bellamy said persons are prohibited from harvesting lobsters during the closed season, which officially began on April 1.

However, persons can have lobster for the first 21 days of the closed season, provided they declare possession, by the April 7 deadline.

They also must request, by April 15, special permission to store lobster, during the closed season.

Persons found in violation of the fisheries act will be prosecuted.
