Foreign Affairs Ministry confirms that no Jamaican was affected by this morning’s earthquake in USA

The foreign affairs ministry is reporting that based on checks with Consul General Alsion Wilson in New York, USA, no Jamaican has been affected by this morning’s earthquake.

A magnitude 4.8 quake was reportedly felt across New York and New Jersey. 

The epicentre of the tremor was near Lebanon, New Jersey, about 40 miles west of New York City.

State minister Alando Terrelonge noted that the ministry is thankful that Jamaican diaspora members are safe. 

He urged Jamaicans in the affected area to take all necessary safety precautions in the event of aftershocks.

Meantime, the earthquake resulted in some flights being grounded at the J-F-K airport in New York, and Newark International in New Jersey.

MBJ Airports Limited which operates the Donald Sangster International Airport in St. James said the grounding did not impact flights to or from Montego Bay.
