Retirement Primary in St Elizabeth to begin erection of fence following invasion incidents

Board Chairman of the Retirement Primary School, in St. Elizabeth, Herman Samuels says the institution is awaiting Government approval for the erection of a fence.

The long-awaited perimeter fence was promised to the school by the Government in October 2022, following a violent attack on former Principal Ann-marie Terrelonge.

The need for the fence was again brought to the fore in March when Mrs. Terrelonge’s alleged attacker re-invaded the school with a machete and threatened staff.

Education Minister, Fayval Williams told Irie FM News in January last year, that the fence was in the procurement phase.

When probed about the progress on Wednesday, Mr. Samuels said he was informed that procurement was done, and it will be sent to Cabinet for approval.

The Chairman added that the staff, parents and students feel safer now that two Security Guards have been assigned to the school.

The two guards were reportedly hired, sometime after the March invasion.
