BOJ reps and Police summoned to appear before Parliament’s Economy and Production Committee

Representatives from the Bank of Jamaica BOJ and the police force will be asked to attend a meeting of Parliament’s Economy and Production Committee, to respond to concerns about financial losses.

Politician and advocate for improved banking service, Fitz Jackson recently moved a motion for the BOJ to intervene  after some bank customers, and financial institutions, suffered major losses due to various issues, including fraud, and lottery scamming.

Mr. Jackson wants the BOJ to assess the magnitude of the losses, and determine steps to be taken to mitigate the negative impact.

During yesterday’s committee meeting, to finalise the agenda, Mr. Jackson pointed out that in addition to having persons from the BOJ, police who are probing the reported financial crimes, such be present at future meetings.

In relation to losses at financial institutions, Mr. Jackson wants the BOJ to provide the committee with a breakdown of the incidents, including the cause of loss.
