This  will  mark  the  return  of  the  award  being  an  actual  event  following   two years of virtual presentations due to covid-19 

World  100  metres  champion Fraser-Pryce  is  among  the  contenders  for the sportswoman award along  with  American  world  400  metres  hurdles  champion  and  world  record  holder  Sydney Mclaughlin  and  American  swimmer  Katie Ledecky, whose four world gold medals   last year took her total of medals to a record 22.

Argentina’s Fifa World Cup-winning captain Lionel Messi and his Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Kylian Mbappé, who scored a hat-trick in the  world  cup final, are  also  among the  athletes who will assemble   for  the  event.
