Powerful 24 man Reggae Boys squad assembled for Canada match up

Midfielder Demario Philips, Forward Romario Williams along with goalkeepers Jahmali Waite and Amal Knight are the lone members of the second string reggae boyz team that played to a nil-all draw against Guatemala on Saturday that have been named in a powerful 24 man squad for the upcoming Concacaf Nations League quarterfinals against Canada.

The team selected by head coach Heimir Hallgrimson will be led up front by Leon Bailey, Michail Antonio, Shamar Nicholson, Demarai Gray and former Mount Pleasant striker Trivante Stewart who is earning his first national call-up since his move to Salernitana in the italian top-flight in august.

The 23 year old Stewart who made his national debut in the one-all draw with Cameroon last year will be earning his 4th international cap.

In the meantime, as well as Phillips the midfield comprises Daniel Johnson, Bobby Reid, Jon Russell, Joel Latibeaudiere and Karoy Anderson.

Marshaling the defense will be Damion Lowe, Ethan Pinnock, Di’shon Bernard, Michael Hector, Dexter Lembikisa, Tayvon Gray, Greg Leigh, Amari Bell, and Javain Brown with captain Andre Blake one of 3 goalkeepers along with Waite and Knight.

The reggae boyz are down to face the Canadians in the first game of the two-way Nations League quarter final tie at the National Stadium on Friday.

The return leg is scheduled for the bmo field in toronto next Tuesday.

The winner on aggregate will qualify for the Concacaf Nations league finals and the 2024 Copa America in the United States.

The four losing quarterfinalists can still qualify for the Copa America via a single-match direct elimination play-in in march.
