Shericka Jackson short-listed for 2023 Female Athlete of the year award

Back-to-back world 200 metre champion Shericka Jackson is among a group of 5 finalists short-listed by track and field’s governing body…..World  Athletics….to win the 2023 female World Athlete of the year award.

The quintet, who represent five countries from four area associations, achieved sensational performances across a range of athletics disciplines, winning titles and breaking world records at a host of events including the world athletics championships, one-day meeting circuits and label road races.

Jackson was short-listed based on her performance at the world athletics championship in Budapest, Hungary where she stormed to  victory in the women’s 200 metre final in a meet record 21.41 seconds and also won silver in the women’s 100 metre event.

This was followed by her winning the women’s 100 and 200 metre diamond league titles at the final in Eugene, Oregon in 10.70 and 21.57 seconds respectively.

The list of 11 nominees…..now whittled down to 5…..also includes world triple jump champion and diamond league winner Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela and Dutch world 400 metre hurdles champion and world indoor 400 metre record holder Femke Bol.  

It’s further completed by Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon…..the world 1500 and 5000 metre champion and triple world record holder over 1500 meters, mile and 5000 meters………along with Berlin  marathon  winner and world marathon record holder Tigist Assefa of  Ethiopia.

the winner will be announced on 11 December as part of the 2023 World Athletics Awards.
