NWA making headway in providing contracts for the construction and rehabilitation of three major bridges in the island

The National Works Agency (NWA) is making major headway in providing contracts for the construction and rehabilitation of three major bridges in the island.

That’s according to Chief Executive officer of the agency, E.G. Hunter.

He says the structures are the Troy Bridge at the border of Trelawny and Manchester, the Craig Mill Bridge in Portland and the Spring Village Bridge in St. Catherine.

Residents who utilise the bridges have been affected significantly by the dilapidated facilities for years.

Noting that the troy bridge is the most anticipated for repairs, Mr. Hunter says the agency is in the process of submitting a recommendation for a contract, to be awarded, for the construction of the bridge.

He states that a similar process is underway for the Craig Mill and Spring Village Bridges.

The NWA head says he is anticipating that the contracts for all three bridges should be in place by the new financial year.

Mr. Hunter was speaking during a meeting of the Public Administration and Appropriation Committee today.

The Committee reviewed the Fourth Supplementary Estimates of Expenditure for financial year 2023-2024.
