Over 1200 athletes including 130 from Jamaica will compete at this Saturday’s (4/5/24) East Coast International showcase at the PG Sports Complex in Maryland.
The event will feature some of the best junior athletes from The United States, Jamaica, Canada, The Bahamas, and Cayman Islands.
The Jamaican athletes are from twelve Jamaican High schools including freshly minted Penn Relays Championship winners Hydel High on the girl’s side, and Excelsior and Jamaica College on the boy’s side.
The other Jamaican schools are St Jago, Steths, Wolmers, Muschett, Vere, Lacovia, St Mary High, Titchfield, and Holmwood.
Reigning Champions from the ISSA Boys Champs including Kemarrio Bygrave from Jamaica College, Damar Miller from Excelsior along with ISSA Girls Champions including Alia Baker from Hydel and Shanoya Douglas from Muschett will compete in their respective pet events.
18 year old Bygrave is set to compete in his pet event as well as the 4×400.
Damar Miller while reflecting on his season, looks ahead to the event this weekend.
Baker who closed out her Champs career with victory in the 100 meters, is looking for a great performance.
Douglas who secured the class 200/400 meters double at Champs, was also a 200 meters winner at the Carifta games, however, she says she always wanted to compete in the 100 meters and is now happy that the opportunity has presented itself.
East Coast International lead organizer and Jamaican Olympian Sanjay Ayre, spoke on the idea of the event.
President of the JAAA’s Garth Gayle says the organizers must be applauded.
