Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and Prime Minister Andrew Holness has indicated that the Local Government Election will not be held this year.

The election is constitutionally due at the end of February next year.

Many supporters of the JLP turned out to the party’s 80th Annual Conference on Sunday expecting to hear the date of the election announced but they were left disappointed.

Speaking at the party conference, Mr Holness said the election date will be called next year on a day of his choosing.

According to the Prime Minister, the JLP has no fear of going to the polls.

Mr Holness called on the younger population to study the political history of the country as the election approaches.
