Security guards concerned over new employment contracts

Several security guards have raised concerns over the new employment contracts they are required to sign.

The supreme court ruled last September, that security guards are now regarded as employees, not contract workers.

The court ruling was implemented on April 1.

However, some security guards have not signed the new contracts, because of concerns about some aspects of the contracts.

One security officer told Irie Fm News, that he has worked 13 years with his company and if he signs the contract, he will automatically be placed on three months probation, as is the practice for new employees.

Another security officer says guards feel they are being pressured to sign the new contracts.

He claims that if they do not sign they are not allowed to work.

He is concerned about how his years of service to this point, will be treated and he is also questioning whether or not retroactive payments will be made.

The guards acknowledge that the new contracts contain benefits that they previously did not enjoy.
