The number of people fatally shot by members of the security forces since the start of the year has increased to 59.
This, after two men died following an alleged confrontation with lawmen on Dam Road, in Green Island, Hanover, yesterday afternoon.
Dead are brothers 23-year-old steelman Enriques Harvey otherwise called ‘Punky’ and 24-year-old woodcutter Romaine Harvey otherwise called ‘Prus’ of the community.
Reports are that at about 2:15 PM, the men had a confrontation with police and were shot dead.
Two guns and several rounds of ammunition were allegedly seized during the incident.
Assistant Commissioner of the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) Hamish Campbell told IRIE FM News that there are conflicting accounts of the incident.
He said the matter is being probed.
He noted that four people were fatally shot by members of the security forces in the first 4 days of June.
