ODPEM urges citizens to develop disaster action plans amidst predictions of an extremely active hurricane season

With an extremely active hurricane season predicted this year, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is calling for citizens to develop action plans for disasters.

Regional Coordinator at ODPEM, Roland Haye, notes that it is not just major hurricanes that citizens need to worry about.

He cites as examples, hurricane Sandy and Allen, which caused significant impact despite not being major storms at landfall.

Mr. Haye says citizens should develop an action plan for emergencies and disasters, at the levels of homes, schools and workplaces.

He adds that persons should also make the necessary preparations to deal with the impacts from a destructive event.

He was speaking at a recent disaster awareness event in Trelawny.
