Several St. Catherine communities without water supply following Rio Cobre fish kill

Mayor of Spanish Town, Norman Scott says several communities are without water supply as a result of the recent fish kill in the Rio Cobre in St. Catherine.

 

A chemical spill from bauxite company, Windalco is being blamed for the fish kill.

 

Mr. Scott says the incident has affected the Spanish Town water treatment plant, and as such water supply has been disrupted for several days.

 

The Mayor says he has received several complaints about a lack of water supply.

He is urging the National Water Commission to ensure that water is trucked to affected communities.

 

In the meantime, Mr. Scott says the relevant agencies must move to address the issue of the fish kill.
