Police officer accused of fatally shooting D’Jonnay Graham pleads guilty to lesser charge of manslaughter
The police officer charged in relation to the fatal shooting of D’Jonnay Graham in Essex District, Richmond, St. Mary, last year has pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Twenty-two-year-old Constable Patrick Walters was charged with murder.
Reports are that last year June, Graham and Walters had a dispute during which Graham was shot.
The police were summoned, and both Graham and Walters were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
In its ruling to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) directed that Constable Walters be charged with the offences of using a firearm to commit a felony and murder contrary to common law.
Constable Walters pleaded guilty to the charge of using a firearm to commit a felony.
He pleaded not guilty to murder, but guilty to manslaughter.
The matter will be transferred to the Home Circuit Court in Kingston for sentencing which is scheduled for September 25.
Constable Walters was remanded in custody pending sentencing.
