Review needed to determine reason for untimely submission of reports by Gov’t agencies – Wehby

Government Senator, Don Wehby has proposed that the Internal Audit Directorate conduct a comprehensive review to determine the rationale for the untimely submission of reports by various Government agencies.

Senator Wehby’s recommendation follows concern raised on Friday by Leader of Opposition Business in the Senate, Peter Bunting about the number of agencies that have not provided any critical annual reports, or audited statements to Cabinet.

Bunting pointed out that major agencies, which handle billions of dollars yearly, have not made submissions to Cabinet since 2015.

In sharing the concern, Senator Wehby said timely and accurate reports from the agencies are indicative of good governance.

He also suggested that internal audit departments should certify management accounts that are falling behind.

He warned that if management accounts are significantly behind, this will invite corruption in the respective units.
