Labour and Social Security Minister, Pearnel Charles Jr, has highlighted the importance of strengthening the administrative arm of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS). 

In yesterday’s meeting of the Heads of CARICOM Social Security Organizations in St. James, Mr. Charles Jr said the move was part of efforts to ensure the financial stability of the country’s social security institutions. 

He attributed the NIS to Jamaica’s ability to respond to recent crises but stressed that its administrative arm must be boosted. 

The Minister also called on CARICOM nations to ensure that their social security organizations are viable.
