The Police High Command has expressed sadness at the death of a traffic cop after he was hit by a vehicle being driven by another officer, in St. Ann.

Constable Rushane Lee was conducting vehicular check point operations in Unity Valley, along the Edward Seaga Highway, about 11:10 p.m, yesterday. 

He signalled a motorist to stop and was hit during the process. 

The Constable was rushed to hospital and admitted in an unconscious state.

He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment earlier today.

In a statement, the Jamaica Constabulary Force extended condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Constable Lee.

It said the force’s Chaplaincy Branch and Welfare Department are providing support to his family members, friends and colleagues.

The Police Federation and the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB) have also extended condolences and are offering support to Constable Lee’s grieving relatives and friends. 

Meantime, the St. Ann Police have indicated that the police officer who was driving the vehicle that hit Constable Lee, turned himself in following the incident.

The cop was processed and is expected to be reachable upon request.

He is expected to face further administrative processing as the investigation progresses.
