The Trelawny police have expressed concern about sexual assault cases involving children, and are warning parents to be careful about who supervises their children.
Head of the division, Superintendent Winston Milton said there has been a hundred percent increase in sexual offence cases.
He noted that the perpetrators are oftentimes relatives of the victims.
He urged parents to pay attention to children who try to tell them, about being abused.
In the meantime, Youth Minister Fayval Williams has noted that a public education campaign is needed to sensitize citizens about sexual abuse, especially as it relates to incest.
The minister made the observation while visiting the Albert Town community, in the wake of the murder of a teen girl.
