Ackelia  Smith  formerly  of  Edwin  Allen  competing for Texas A and M landed  the gold medal last night in the  women’s  long  jump  on  day  two  of  the  four  day NCAA track and field division one  outdoor  championships  at the Mike A Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Smith  recovered  from  two  opening  effort  fouls  to  snatch  the  gold  with  her  final  jump  of  6.88  metres  

Meanwhile  her  former  team-mate  Kevona  Davis   and  St Lucian  Julien  Allen  formerly  of  St  Cathrinne  High  booked  their  place  in  the  final  of  the  100  and  200  metres.

Allen  produced  a  time  of  10.99  seconds  in  her  semi-final,  while  Davis  had  the  3rd  fastest  time  of  11.04  seconds.

In  the  200  metre  semi finals – both  Allen  and  Davis  posted  identical  times  of  22.33  seconds  to  win  their  event  and  advance  to  the  championship  round.

Davis  and  Allen   were  part  of  the  Texas  A  and  M  4  by  100  metres  relay  team  which  won  their  semi-final  in  a   championship  record  41.55  seconds  to  advance  to  the  final.

Bryanna  Lyston  ran  the  3rd  leg  for  LSU  as  they  placed  second  behind  Texas  a and  m  in  42.84  seconds.

In  the  meantime  Ackera  Nugent  of  the  university  of  Arkansas  is  also  through  to  the  final  of  the  Women’s  100  metre  hurdles  after  posting  12.55  seconds  on  her  way  to  a  second  place  finish  in  the  semi-finals.

The  boys  will  be  in the  spotlight  on  today’s  3rd  day  and  will  feature  18  year  old  Jaydon Hibbert.

The  former  Kingston  College   athlete, a freshman  at  the University  of  Arkansas  has  already set the outdoor triple jump record this year.
