The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona is aiming to earn USD$15 million each year to offset the continuous reduction in Government investment.
There is growing concern that funding for the University is lagging, and that this has resulted in several missed opportunities for the institution.
Speaking at a recent Mona Council Meeting, UWI Vice Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles sought to clarify that the continued deficit being experienced is not due to a mismanagement of the University’s affairs.
He explained that with Government funding dipping below 50 per cent each year, the campus has to take steps to generate a targeted $15 million to effectively manage operations.
