INDECOM calls for witnesses to fatal police shooting in St. Mary
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is appealing to persons with information about the fatal police shooting in St. Mary this morning (March 24) to contact its offices.
Indecom says its investigators were early on the scene of yet another fatal police shooting incident to collect evidence.
They are yet to receive any witness statements.
Reports from the police are that about 2:45 a.m. a man was fatally shot by the police at Stewart Town in Oracabessa.
Dead is 27-year-old Pierre Hawthorn, otherwise called ‘Mack’, of Tower Isle, in the parish.
The police report did not indicate if anyone else was shot during the incident.
However, Indecom reports state that a 25 old woman and 40 old man were shot and wounded. Their condition is not known.
The incident reportedly took place at a club in Stewart Town, St. Mary.
Reports to Irie FM News are that patrons were at a party at a bar, near an area known as Big Gate, when one of the music selectors for a sound system arrived.
There was reportedly an incident in which the selector had an altercation with a policeman.
The cop who was not in uniform reportedly drew a gun and began firing.
Three persons were hit.
They were taken to hospital where one died.
The Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) are probing the incident.
Since the start of this year, more than 51 persons were fatally shot by police during operations.
