An attempted robbery in Negril, Westmoreland this morning which resulted in 4 alleged gunmen being fatally shot and another nursing gunshot wounds in hospital was the latest in a series of attacks on cash courier company Beryllium.

Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Crime Portfolio, Fitz Bailey, made the revelation this afternoon.

Reports are that between 6 and 10 A.M.,  members of the JCF’s Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime investigation branch, (CTOC) acted on intelligence and intercepted multiple vehicles in Negril Square.

A shoot out ensued and 5 alleged gunmen were shot.

One of the vehicles ended up in the sea.

4 men were pronounced dead, while another is being treated at hospital.

Six firearms were also seized during the incident.

DCP Bailey said the police operation resulted from an investigation which began last year.

He said criminals involved in a recent attempted Beryllium robbery in Manchester are linked to this morning’s incident in Westmoreland.
