Shimona Nelson-Jok to make her season debut in Suncorp Super Netball League

Sunshine Girls shooter Shimona Nelson-Jok will make her 2024 season debut in round 3 of the Suncorp Super Netball league in Australia.

This when she suits up for new franchise Melbourne Mavericks who play at home to the undefeated league leading West Coast Fever led by Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard and which also includes Shanice Beckford and Kadie-Ann Dehaney.

Nelson-Jok, who was third last season with 618 goals while with the now defunct Collingwood Magpies, joined the Mavericks as a training partner during the off-season and was elevated to the active roster following the loss of attacker Sasha Glasgow after she was sidelined with injuring when she fractured her lower leg during a pre-season match against the Sunshine Coast Lightning.

She makes her way into the team as replacement for goal-shooter Rolene Streutker with the pointless Mavericks joint bottom of the table having lost their opening two games, scoring 117 goals and conceding 135 in the process.

That game takes place at John Cain Arena.

Action in round 3 tips off with defending champions Adelaide Thunderbirds with reigning MVP Shamera Sterling-Humphrey, Latanya Wilson and Romelda Aiken-George on the road against Sunshine Coast Lightning.

Jodi-Ann Ward will be in action for the Giants Netball Club who entertain the unbeaten Melbourne Vixens.
