Court of Arbitration for Sport reduces John Campbell’s four-year suspension for whereabouts rule violation

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has reduced Jamaica and West Indies opener John Campbell’s four-year suspension for whereabouts rule violation by two years and two months.

The 29-year-old left-hander was originally banned for four years by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCo) after failing to provide a blood sample to doping control officers in April 2022.

Campbell appealed the decision in December 2022, the matter was heard before CAS in April 2023.

A decision was to be handed down on August 31, 2023. After more than four postponements, that decision, which was handed down on Thursday, sees Campbell sanctioned with a twenty two-month period of ineligibility starting from October 6, 2022, with credit for any suspension already served.

Campbell has played 20 Tests for the West Indies since making his debut against England in January 2019.

In those Tests, he scored 888 runs at an average of 26.11, including three half-centuries. His last Test was against Bangladesh in June 2022.
