Navasky Anderson smashes 45 year old Jamaican men’s 800 meters record

Navasky Anderson turned in a sensational performance to smash the national men’s 800 meters record last night at the N-C-Double a Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene . 

The Mississippi State University runner broke the 45-year-old record of 1 minute 45. 30 seconds set by Seymour Newman in May 1977, to set a new mark of 1 minute 45.02 seconds. 

Anderson, the former St Jago High runner who broke his own personal best 1minutes 45.8 seconds, set when he won the S.E.C outdoor title last month, also qualified for the world championships to be held at the same venue next month.

Last night Apolos Edwards of Louisiana State University (LSU) secured third place in the men’s triple jump event leaping 16.39 metres.

The performance of Lafranz Campbell of Clemson University in the men’s 110 hurdles final, was only good enough for fifth in a time of 13.45 seconds, the event won by Trey Cunningham of Florida State in 13 seconds flat. 

Another Jamaican Jevaughn Powell of the University of Texas and El-Paso was a seventh place finisher in the men’s 400 metres final in 45.81 seconds, the event won by Randolph ross of North Carolina in 44.13 seconds.
