Opposition calls on government to provide update on status of 2022 population and housing census
Opposition spokesman on finance, Julian Robinson has called on the government to provide an update on the status of the 2022 population and housing census.
The data collection exercise for the 2022 population and housing census, should have ended last month, but was extended to the first quarter, of 2023.
The Statistical Institute of Jamaica, STATIN, said the extension was to ensure maximum coverage, of the Jamaican population.
It said data collection commenced in September 2022, on a phased basis, and since then, census takers have been deployed islandwide, however, there are more persons to be counted.
But, speaking at a PNP press conference on Thursday morning, the opposition spokesman on finance said there has been a lack of activity on the ground.
He called for an explanation from the government.
