Eighty-four churches in St. James are set to receive a combined $16 million in grant funding to support cleanup, restoration and rehabilitation efforts following the passage of Hurricane Melissa last year. The funding forms part of the Government's $75 million Churches Clean-up and Restoration Initiative which is expected to benefit 420 churches across the parishes hardest hit by the hurricane.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force said through targeted operations by the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID), the police significantly disrupted transnational organised crime networks. In the first six months of 2026, FNID seized more cocaine than for the combined total of six consecutive years, from 2016 to 2021. It is also the highest amount seized in the past ten years.
