Jamaica  and  defending  champions  USA are  the  only  Concacaf  teams  remaining  in  contention  for  a  round  of  16 spot  at  the FIFA  Women’s  World  Cup  in  Australia  and  New  Zealand.

This  after  Olympic  champions  Canada  was  eliminated  today  following  a  crushing  4-nil  loss  to  co-host  Australia  who  secured  their  place  in the knockout  round.

Hayley Raso scored a first-half brace to give  the  Aussies   the upper hand with emerging star  Mary Fowler adding a third in the 58th minute.

Hometown hero Steph Catley buried a penalty to seal a famous victory  for  Australia  in  front  of  over  27  thousand  spectators   to  take  top spot in group B’ . 

Nigeria  also  advanced  from  the  group  after  holding  on  for  a  goaless  draw  with  the  Republic  of  Ireland.

Another  Concacaf  team  Costa  Rica  was  eliminated  today  after  they  lost  3-1  to  Zambia   to  finish  at  the  bottom  of  group C’  as  Japan  topped  the  group  with  a  4-nil  win  over  Spain,

Switzerland, Spain, Japan  and  Norway  the  teams  already  confirmed  for  the  round of  16   along  with  Australia  and  Nigeria .

In the  meantime  Jamaica’s reggae girls were back at training  today  at their official base in Melbourne…Victoria state training center.

This as they make preparations for the all-important showdown against group ‘F’ rivals Brazil  on  Wednesday.
