Senegal kick starts Africa Cup of nations campaign on a winning note
Title holders Senegal began their 2023 Africa Cup of nations campaign on a positive note….. running out comfortable 3-nil winners over 10-man underdogs the Gambia.
The opening goal was scored in the 4th minute by Pape Gueye before Lamine Camara doubled the lead in the 52nd minute after the Gambia midfielder Ebou Adams was dismissed for an off-the ball challenge just before half-time.
The game was put out of reach by camara who scored his 2nd and Senegal’s third 4 minutes from time.
The defending champions with the result lead group ‘c’ on 3 points…..2 ahead of Cameroon and Guinea who battled to a one-all stalemate.
The opening game in group ‘D’ ended in a one-all draw between former champions Algeria and Angola.
The action in group ‘D’ continues tomorrow with Burkina Faso going up against Mauritania at 9 ‘o’ clock Jamaica time.
This will be followed by the group ‘e’ encounter between Tunisia and Namibia at 12 noon and Mali against South Africa at 3.
