In the wake of Sunday’s attack on a group of security guards in Portmore, St. Catherine, the Jamaica Association for Private Security, JAPS, is again calling for greater protection for members of the industry.

A civilian and three security guards were shot and wounded in the brazen attack.

Police report that around 12:40 pm the security guards were in the process of servicing an automated teller machine, when they were pounced upon by armed men who attempted to rob them.

The incident came on the heels of an attack in Portmore Pines, three weeks ago, when a security guard was shot and killed, and two others were wounded, as thieves made off with 10 million dollars in cash

Speaking with Irie Fm news, JAPS President Teddy Lee Gray, reiterated his call for improved security apparatus that will keep guards safe.

Mr Gray also called for more fit for purpose vehicles to be provided for guards who serve as couriers.
