According to data obtained from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, 494 people were murdered up to Saturday June 1.

This is 59 fewer than the 553 recorded in the similar period last year.

St. James recorded the highest number of murders with 65, followed by Westmoreland with 45.

Portland recorded the least number of murders with 6.

Meantime, cases of rapes, robberies and break-ins have also decreased.

Rapes have declined by 74, from 211 to 137.

Robberies have gone down by 38, from 313, to 275.

While break-ins have decreased by 17, from 396, to 379.
