The Education Ministry has assured that all measures are being taken to keep staff and students safe following several bomb threats today.

Threats were made against at least 3 schools; Kingston College, Campion College both in Kingston and Holmwood Technical High in Manchester.

In a statement, the ministry said it was made aware of the threats and has taken the necessary steps to activate school safety protocols. 

Education Minister Fayval Williams said the Ministry of National Security was contacted to ensure that all the necessary precautions are taken. 

She said these threats are not taken lightly and have to be treated with the same level of urgency whether they are real or hoaxes.

The minister has appealed to citizens to desist from these types of disruptive actions which can cause serious negative impact on students. 

Schools that receive bomb threats are being reminded that in addition contacting the police, a critical incident report should also be completed. 

Meanwhile, Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA) President Leighton Johnson, has condemned the disruption of external examinations and regular classes by bomb threats earlier today.

Two schools in the Corporate Area as well as Holmwood Technical High School in Manchester were reportedly targeted.

Students sitting Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) exams had to be evacuated until the validity of the threats was determined.
