Health Minister says Cornwall Regional Hospital Rehabilitation Project, is closing in on the finish

Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says the multibillion-dollar rehabilitation of the St. James based Cornwall Regional Hospital, is closing in on the finish.

The rehabilitation project which began in 2019 has been widely criticized by stakeholders including the Opposition, which raised concerns over the cost and length of time the project is taking.

Speaking in Parliament during his sectoral debate presentation today, Dr. Tufton said the third and final phase of the rehabilitation has commenced.

Meantime, the Health Minister noted that the Western Children and Adolescent Hospital in St. James is more than halfway complete.

The facility is expected to increase the availability of hospital beds in the western region.

He added that work is also underway at the May Pen Hospital, while the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital is undergoing the final stages of the design process for work to be undertaken.
