Jamaica’s legendary track and field superstar Usain Bolt will be in attendance today at the Laureus Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year announcement in Madrid, Spain.
Bolt who is a four-time laureus award winner, was the last man to complete the sprint treble at the World Championships
American Noah Lyles seeking to follow in the footsteps of bolt with three gold medals at the Budapest World Championships last year is on the shortlist for the sportsman of the year award, along with Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, who helped fire Manchester City to the english premier league, Fa Cup and Champions league titles and Swedish Pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis, who may have given a nudge to the jury by setting a new world record at the Xiamen Diamond League meeting in China on Saturday.
Two-times winner Lionel Messi, four times winner Novak Djokovic and Max Verstappen completes the mens shortlist, while Faith kipyegon and Aitana Bonmati head the women’s nominations.
Jamaica’s two times world 200 metres champion Shericka Jackson and fellow sprinter Shacarrie Richardson of the usa are also among the womens nominees.
