A 29-year-old woman has been taken into police custody, after her 8-year-old son perished in a fire in Westmoreland on Friday night.

Dead is Ramiel Richardson of Top Lincoln, in Grange Hill.

Police reports are that  at about 11:40 p.m., Ramiel was at home when a fire broke out at the dwelling.

His mother who was outside raised an alarm and the fire department was contacted. 

Firefighters responded and following cooling down operations, Ramiel was discovered  unconscious in the house. 

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His mother was arrested.

Investigations continue.
