Hearing for release of Dancehall entertainer Vybz Kartel and 2 co-appellants to continue in the Supreme Court on May 29

The hearing for the release of Dancehall entertainer Vybz Kartel and two of his co-appellants is to continue in the Supreme Court on May 29 and 30.

A habeas corpus application was being made on behalf of the men in court today, but the hearing was adjourned due to insufficient time.

Attorneys are seeking the release of Kartel whose real name is Adidja Palmer, Shawn “Shawn Storm” Campbell and Aundre St. John, who along with Kahira Jones were convicted for the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.

The application comes after the March 14, ruling by the United Kingdom based Privy Council, which quashed the convictions, on the ground of juror misconduct.

The Privy Council also sent the case back to the Jamaican court, for a determination on retrial.

Speaking with IRIE FM News this afternoon, one of Kartel’s attorneys, Alessandra Labeach said the adjournment will allow for the necessary submissions to be made.
