Member of Parliament for St. Mary Western, Robert Montague, is calling on the finance ministry to give banks a 60-day ultimatum to improve their customer service.
He said banks must be held accountable for their poor treatment of customers.
This includes being held to a standard and punished if those standards are not met.
Meantime, Mr. Montague is also calling for the ministries of finance and commerce, to collaborate on implementing a program, which would attract other banking institutions to Jamaica.
While decrying the poor customer service experienced by bank users in his constituency, Mr. Montague said the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) needs to facilitate investments from smaller, more capable banks.
He was delivering his state of constituency address, in the House of Representatives, on Wednesday.
