Road deaths nearing 200

The number of people killed on the nation’s roadways since the start of the year is nearing 200.

According to the latest crash data, 197 people have died in road crashes to date.

Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones says the increase is as a result of 5 additional deaths which were reported yesterday (May 31).

The deceased are males ranging in age from 29 to 46 years.

The crashes which occurred between May 12 and yesterday, were along Washingston Boulevard in St. Andrew, the Spring Hill main road in Trelawny, the North South Highway in the St. Catherine area, along the Junction main road in St. Elizabeth and the Bustamante Highway in Clarendon.

Dr. Jones is again calling for the regulations of the new Road Traffic Act to be passed.
