West Indies have been knocked out of the ongoing ICC T/20 World Cup in Australia

Two-time champions West Indies have been knocked out of the ongoing ICC T/20 World Cup in Australia.

It comes after they were embarrassed by Ireland who stormed to a crushing 9-wicket win in the decisive group ‘b’ showdown in Hobart.

Electing to bat the Windies were restricted to a meagre 146 for 5 with Brandon King hitting an unbeaten 62 off 48 balls against leg-spinner Gareth Delany who took 3 for 16.

Ireland in response sprinted to victory at 150 for 1 in 17.3 overs.

Opener Paul Stirling led the way, slamming an unbeaten 66 from 48 deliveries.

He was aided by captain Andy Balbirnie 37 and Lorcan Tucker who finished unbeaten on 45.

Akeal Hossein, the lone west indies bowler to reap success, ended with 1 for 38.

West Indies head coach Phil Simmons put the failure squarely at the feet of the batsmen.
