“We want to produce!” Agricultural Society says farmers adapting to changing climate and associated challenges

The Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) says the nation’s farmers are taking the necessary steps to adapt to the changing climate and associated challenges.

This, JAS says, is due to farmers’ determination to continue their role of feeding the country while fulfilling their financial obligations.

Farmers across the island are wishing for a productive season this year, as many are still trying to pick up the pieces from Hurricane Beryl, Tropical Storm Rafael and persistent heavy rains last year.

The Agriculture Ministry has since implemented several initiatives to support them.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, JAS President Owen Dobson said that despite the challenges of the previous year, the nation’s farmers remain committed to their duties.

Mr. Dobson also noted that if the season continues without any major challenge, consumers will see a further stabilization of the prices for produce.
