Voting in St. James marred by fatal shooting

Voting proceedings at the Flanker Primary School in St. James were halted earlier today (February 26), due to a fatal shooting incident there.

The deceased has been identified as Peter Johnson otherwise called ‘Jowlo’.

Police say Johnson, who was a person of interest in the parish, was shot dead during a confrontation with members of the security forces.

A firearm was also seized during the incident.

Speaking to the IRIE FM team roaming the parish today, General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), Dr. Horace Chang, described the incident as unfortunate.

He said he is awaiting the results of probes being conducted into the incident.

Meanwhile, the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has commenced a probe into the circumstances under which Peter Johnson was shot by a member of the security forces.

Director of Complaints for INDECOM’s western region, Errol Chattoo, says the scene was processed by the commission’s team and evidence gathered.
