U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to arrive in Jamaica today to attend the high-level meeting on Haiti

United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken is slated to arrive in Jamaica today to attend the high-level meeting on Haiti.

Heads of Government of seven Caribbean nations, eight international partner countries, and personnel from the United Nations are to meet in Kingston to discuss the state of affairs in Haiti and other matters critical to the stabilization of the nation’s security.

The meeting is being convened by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and follows engagements which have been underway with Haitian stakeholders.

In a press statement, the U.S. Department of State said Blinken will discuss the proposal developed in partnership with CARICOM and Haitian stakeholders to expedite a political transition in Haiti.

This, through the creation of a broad-based, independent presidential college, and the deployment of a Multinational Security Support Mission to address the ongoing security crisis.

Blinken will also meet with Prime Minister Andrew Holness to discuss bilateral and regional issues and reaffirm the U.S.’s tie with Jamaica.
