Transport minister expresses outrage at recent spate of killings of taxi operators

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has expressed outrage at the recent spate of killings of taxi operators across the island.

The most recent incident is the killing of 47-year-old Alden Watson of Dalling Street, Savanna-La-Mar, Westmoreland who was shot on Monday.

Police reports are that Watson was sitting in his Toyota motorcar on Burnt Savannah main road at about 9:40 P.M., when he was shot and killed by unknown assailants.

Citizens heard gunshots and summoned the police. On their arrival, he was seen with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was confirmed dead at hospital.

Meantime, Mr Vaz said it is high time that the killings stop.

He noted that as taxi operators provide an essential service, the necessary steps should be taken to protect and secure them.

He also assured transport stakeholders that he has received the commitment of the police high command that the perpetrators of this vicious attack will be brought to justice quickly.
