Taxi operators vow to continue protests

Scores of transport operators across the island have vowed to withdraw their service again today (February 7), in continuation of their protest over the government’s handling of key matters affecting the sector.

Yesterday, taxi operators attached to the One Voice Taxi Association withdrew service, affecting hundreds of commuters in several parishes including, St. James, St. Ann, St. Catherine and Kingston and St. Andrew.

They want the government to address concerns they have voiced about the newly implemented road traffic act.

Noting that up to late last night, some operators in St. Catherine were still off the job, president of the One Voice Taxi Association, Oscar Finnikin said the protest continues.

Meantime, other transport groups have indicated that they will not participate in the protest.

President of the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS) Egeton Newman has urged members to show up for work.
