Chairman of the CARICOM Reparations Commission (CRC), Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, says the movement for reparatory justice is gathering significant momentum across the globe.
He said descendants of enslaved persons have a duty to continue to fight for compensation for their ancestors.
Speaking at a CARICOM Reparations Forum yesterday, he pointed to the recent adoption by the United Nations (UN) of the declaration recognising the trafficking of enslaved Africans and racialised chattel enslavement of Africans as the gravest crimes against humanity.
Professor Beckles said countries like China and Russia supported the resolution.
He argued that the case for reparatory justice is now formulated.
He said CARICOM and Africa are working closely together to provide leadership support on the reparations push.
