St. James and KSA Municipal Corporations to clamp down on improper garbage disposal

Mayor of Kingston, Andrew Swaby says several corporate area businesses found to be disposing of their garbage improperly, will be written to in a bid to remedy the issue.

The mayor who toured sections of Half Way Tree with representatives of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation, K-S-A-M-C, and the National Solid Waste Management Authority, N-S-W-M-A, today, noted that poor garbage disposal practices were observed.

Pointing out that vending issues were also observed, Mayor Swaby told reporters that the matters must be addressed.

The mayor said he will meet with vendors in the corporate area in the coming weeks to continue consultations.

Meantime, Deputy Mayor of Montego Bay, Dwight Crawford says illegal dumpsites continue to hinder proper waste disposal within the city.

He asserts that the problem arises from individuals who opt to dispose their commercial waste in residential areas and expect the waste management authority to handle it.

He further condemns companies which engage in such acts.

He was speaking in an interview with Irie FM at the Charles Gordon Market in Montego Bay, St. James earlier today.
