Some level of normality restored to the education sector following emergency meeting
Some level of normality has been restored to the education sector, following a meeting with representatives from the Labour and Education Ministries and the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, this morning.
The emergency conciliatory meeting to facilitate the return to normality in schools across the island began at 8:30am and ended at about 11 a-m.
It was held at the Labour Ministry’s office in Kingston.
It followed a request made yesterday by the Education Ministry for the intervention of the Labour Ministry based on the apparent industrial action reportedly being taken by teachers in government administered educational institutions, island wide.
The teachers who are represented by the JTA have rejected the government’s latest wage offer.
Irie FM News understands that the meeting was cordial.
Both parties outlined their positions and arrived at an agreement that with normalcy restored, the JTA should inform the Finance Ministry of its willingness to return to the bargaining table, at the soonest possible time.
