Security to be increased for students islandwide with installation of CCTV cameras in schools and expansion of Rural Transportation Programme
The Education Ministry is preparing the procurement to enable system wide installation and coordination of security cameras in schools.
This amidst several incidents of violence in schools.
Speaking during yesterday’s Sitting of Parliament, Portfolio Minister Fayval Williams said the safety and security of students and staff continue to be of priority.
Noting that a survey, done in July 2023, showed 154 schools with a total of 1,955 cameras, the minister said more schools have benefited from grants to procure CCTV cameras this year.
Meantime, regarding transportation, Mrs. Williams said over 7,000 students will benefit from an expanded Rural Transportation Programme.
