Reggae Girlz to use Brazil friendly to launch World Cup campaign

The upcoming two match friendly series between Jamaica and Brazil will be used by the Reggae Girlz to pick up from where they left off after the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, according to midfielder Deniesha Blackwood.

The Jamaicans now under head coach Hubert Busby will face Brazil in two matches, the first of which takes place in Recife on Saturday.

In preparation for that encounter the team, which includes seventeen World Cup veterans, held a training session Friday morning at the match venue minus Amelia Van Zanten who picked up a knock to the ankle on Thursday.

Blackwood while looking ahead says the games will provide a good launching point for their next world cup campaign.

Saturday’s encounter at the Arena De Pernambuco is scheduled to get underway at 3pm Jamaica time with the second and final game in Salvador on Tuesday.

Both teams met during the group stage of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup where they played to a scoreless draw that eliminated Brazil and saw the Reggae Girlz finish second on five points – two behind group winners France – to create history by advancing to the knockout stage.
